TRIP TO AARHUS AND BILLUND

Oh my gosh, we missed our flight!

We had a ridiculously cheap flight just over £20 originally to Billund, and because we missed our flight, that then became £120+ direct to Aarhus, Denmark. Not to mention, I got a speeding ticket on the way to the airport- I had some bad voodoo that day! Well – good vibes only from that point onwards! So let me share with you what we did on our 2-day visit to Aarhus & Billund.

Den Gamle By, Aarhus

Yasss! This open-air museum is a must! If you don’t, you will regret it! Such an unforgettable outdoor experience. Den Gamle By was like walking through a living time machine, discovering Danish life from 1900-the 1970s. It feels like you are experiencing the real thing; I guess they call that living history. The people you engage with dressed in that era, the exhibitions to the food you eat and who does not love a good horse cart ride!

Other Highlights in Aarhus:

Because we missed out flight, we lost much time from morning to afternoon – But that wasn’t going to get us down! Ideally, we wanted to visit the ARoS Aarhus Art MuseumAarhus Botanical Garden and the Viking Museum, as they were top on the list of our things to do, maybe another time.

Lego House, Billund

Explore the House of the Brick; I had no idea Billund was home to ‘Lego’ toys. Me and my old uni friend were ‘Lego-ed out’ by the end of this eventful jam-packed day. Full of interactive experiences to let your creativity out, massive imaginative Lego architects inside and out, and the official history of Lego itself.

Billund Bageri

We got to have some lunch at the locals! Billund is a tiny town and limited when it comes to the whole dining experience. However, this place looked the best for lunchtime and smelt delicious. I love the smell of freshly baked goods, and we also stocked up on some Danish pastries that got squashed in our backpacks on the way home.

I am not exactly sure what I had ordered. Not knowing how to speak Danish, I just pointed at that one (awkward). It looked different: a sandwich with red cabbage, gherkins, spinach, and beef patty; you will see it in the slideshow above.

Hotel Propellen, Billund

This hotel was modern, clean, spacious, and had a swimming pool, which was great value for the price! The accommodation was right in the heart for leisure, fun and activities for family and kids..

The high street and Lego House was only a 15 mins walk away. The airport is only 13 mins taxi drive (or you could walk it for 40 mins if you are on a budget). It was like being on the leisure district corner. In front, you would have the water park, Aquadome, and to the left, you had Legoland Resort.

If I went back, I would visit the highlights I missed in Aarhus. For Billund, this is perfect for children; If I had kids, I would take them to the Legoland Theme Park & stay at Lalandia to experience the waterpark and maybe take some leisurely ‘adult’ walks through the Skulpturpark.
