TOP PLACES TO VISIT IN BREMEN

This little trip to Bremen, Germany, cost me £35 for a return flight from London (backpack only), and you only need three days max to explore the whole city, unless you are planning to venture outside. Below you can find my favourite places that I had explored in Bremen.

Schnoor Quarter

This street is very quaint! Tall narrow shops, cafes, galleries and bars. It felt like being in a maze, trying to figure out which route to take on the cobbled footpath. Nevertheless, there are tiny silver studs in the ground that you can follow so you do not get lost.

This street reminded me of ‘Diagon Alley’ from Harry Potter! Quirky, unusually attractive and old fashioned, it made it a great spot to pick up some gifts/souvenirs and a spot of tea. Of course, we had cappuccinos to keep our energies up; this was in the most squished old Tudor looking coffee shop I have ever seen, called Teestübchen.

Böttcherstraße

This historical street is where I kept revisiting! You will find many things to do in this spot! The shops enticed me to buy, the art gallery inspired me, and I admire the unique red brick structure and architectural creativity.

You can also find the Tourist InfoLudwig Museum Roselius-Haus, Paula Modersohn-Becker Art Gallery (first museum in the world dedicated to a female artist), among other things I had explored.

Bremen Town Hall

This paid tour is well worth doing! It is excellent to get an exciting overview of the internal architect, symbolism, art, and design that reflects the history and culture of Bremen! The tour guide – she was also great, brought it to life.

I bet you want to know why ships are hanging from the ceiling? I will not spoil the fun; hopefully, you will get to go and find out one day.

Bremer Marktplatz

If you like taking pictures, photography or selfies, this is where you want to be, right in the centre of it all. From here, you have the beautiful sights of the gothic style early 15th century Townhall and the Roland Statue, both UNESCO world heritage sites.

This statue is Bremen’s version of the ‘Statue of Liberty’ symbolic of freedom and trading/market rights. You also have a breathtaking view of Bremen’s Cathedral, St Petri Dom Bremen.

St Petri Dom Bremen

The building was so tall and grand my camera lens struggled! Eek! I could not get a complete picture (but check my Instagram highlights on Bremen for more). You can go inside, free of charge, and you can also go all the way to the top for that epic shot!

I was so excited to take some incredible skyline views of Bremen and the Marketplatz, but it was closed because the weather was too windy – unlucky me 😦. So if you do go, visit spring/summer time as you will probably get more opportunities.

Pannekoekschip Admiral Nelson

Aka ‘The Pancake Ship’ never have I ever had lunch on a pirate ship! Feeling a little bit like a kid again (nothing wrong with being youthful), this was a great experience to have! Please note – Make sure to check the opening times and days.

It is also on The Schlachte, the promenade along the River Weser, which is also a pleasant visit for strolls and leisurely walks. You can also see the ‘Becks’ Beer Factory in the distance – Did you know Becks was born in Bremen?

Of course, I would order something I have never tried before and out of the ordinary. The food was mustard soup and savoury pancakes with smoked salmon with apple, onion and housewife sauce (onions, pickled cucumber, apple and sour cream). Hmmm, distinctive taste!

Bremer Ratskeller

Ohhh, fancy! A century-old underground restaurant underneath the great Townhall of Bremen. Did you know it used to be a council wine cellar built back in the year 1405! Luxurious setting and stunning fine embellished decorative wine barrels.

A real unique surrounding and total absorption of rich history. Variety of local traditional German food with the option of vegan and vegetarian dishes too.
